The Philadelphia Business Journal named Slice Communications as one of eleven recipients of its 2nd annual Social Media Star Awards. The winners were selected by an independent judging panel based on how creatively their projects leveraged social media to accomplish a business purpose.
Slice is proud to be among the 2012 winners, all of whom will be profiled in a special supplement on March 23rd and honored at a reception on April 5th. In the meantime, below is a preview of one of the social media projects for which Slice was named a Social Media Star:
BBQ Guru, headquartered in Warminster, PA, markets temperature control devices for low and slow barbequing. The company has developed a loyal following among barbeque fanatics and its devices have become a mainstay on the competitive barbecue cook-off circuit. In anticipation of the release of two new products targeting amateur backyard grillers, BBQ Guru engaged Slice to generate buzz and boost sales through public relations and social media.
To reinforce the status of BBQ Guru products as must-haves during the tailgating season, Slice launched the Guru Your Tailgate contest on Facebook, which it cross-promoted on Twitter and the BBQ Guru blog. Over a six-week contest period, more than 700 people cast votes for their favorite tailgating tales submitted by more than 80 contestants vying for the grand prize, a BBQ Guru Onyx Oven smoker. The contest served as a valuable opportunity for BBQ Guru to strengthen its brand and engage the online community of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts. In addition to an increase in sales, the contest resulted in 1,022 new Facebook ‘likes’ and 238 new Twitter followers, an increase of 19 percent and 12 percent, respectively.
