Director of Digital News, WHYY

Melony Roy is an award-winning journalist who manages the digital news content as the Interim News Director at WHYY Inc., Philadelphia’s public media service heard on a network of FM stations in the Philadelphia area and seen on WHYY-TV.

Her pioneering work in digital media includes the creation and growth of the social media platforms for the CBS-owned KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia. She has also been an on-air reporter, covering tech trends and the growing influence of social and digital media in everyday personal and work life.

Her reporting led her to coverage of events like SXSW in Austin TX, the 2016 Democratic National Convention, and the Forbes 30 under 30 conference.

Melony’s digital leadership has been awarded by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters for “Outstanding Use of Digital.” She has been named one of Philadelphia’s “Most Influential African Americans” by the Philadelphia Tribune.

Melony was selected as a participant in the prestigious AAJA Executive Leadership Program conducted at ABC News in New York, as well as a mentoring Executive Advisor to the inaugural Lenfest Constellation News Leadership Initiative.

She is active in the Philadelphia community, and as a past president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, Melony prioritized the recruitment and mentoring of journalists of color in Philadelphia newsrooms.
