Embracing Leadership: Insights from Remarkable Women

For Slice’s yearly celebration of International Women’s Day, our blog series features inspiring words from women in leadership. This year, we reached out to our female trailblazers and requested a brief video describing what it means to be an empowering woman in leadership. It’s crucial to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments, wisdom, and resilience of women in various fields but a glimpse into how they got there is all the more enlightening. Our celebratory video draws inspiration from the insights shared by extraordinary women leaders and business owners. Their words offer invaluable lessons on leadership, empowerment, and the importance of supporting one another.

We found that the majority of the responses had one common theme: compassion—a trait shared by many women—is the most powerful leadership skill.

We are pleased to present the fierce women leaders featured in our annual International Women’s Day Celebration.

Confidence in Uniqueness

Tonya Ladipo, CEO of the Ladipo Group, emphasizes the significance of embracing our unique perspectives. In a world where conformity often seems like the norm, Tanya reminds us that our differences are assets, not liabilities. Confidence in our individuality can propel us forward in our careers and businesses, enabling us to make a meaningful impact.

Making Others Feel Valued

Marcia O’Connor, CEO and founder of the O’Connor Group, channels the wisdom of Maya Angelou, highlighting the profound impact of making others feel valued and remembered. In leadership, it’s not just about the tasks we accomplish or the words we speak; it’s about the lasting impression we leave on others through our actions and empathy.

Embracing Creativity and Diversity

Janayah Davis, owner, and baker at BatterUp, encourages us to embrace creativity and dare to be different in our industries. Being a leader means stepping out of the box and leveraging our creativity to drive innovation and positive change.

Moreover, Deirdre Childress Hopkins, Senior Director Of Communications at Temple University, stresses the importance of diversity, urging us to challenge stereotypes and support one another in breaking barriers.

The Power of Rest

Penny Zenker shares a powerful mantra: “Reset.” The TEDX speaker reminds us that In our fast-paced lives, taking a purposeful pause to reset can make all the difference. It allows us to reconnect with our goals, re-energize our spirits, and approach challenges with renewed vigor. By combining emotional intelligence with business intelligence, we become more intentional and effective leaders.

Building Meaningful Relationships

Hope Horwitz, VP and partner at Feldscher Horwitz Public Relations, highlights the importance of connecting and building life-long relationships. Whether it’s connecting with colleagues, clients, or mentors, building meaningful relationships is essential for success. By taking conversations to a personal level and showing genuine care and empathy, we create lasting bonds that propel us forward.

Empowering Others

Elina Sofia Wang, co-founder and CEO of ESW Beauty, shares her deep appreciation for being able to work alongside talented and driven women. By making three people feel amazing each day, whether through compliments, acts of kindness, or simply being there for them, we contribute to a more supportive and inclusive world.

Each of these remarkable women reminds us of our power to uplift and empower others. As we honor International Women’s Day, let’s heed the wisdom of these extraordinary women by embracing our uniqueness, making others feel valued, and cultivating creativity and diversity in our industries. We give ourselves grace and cultivate power while, as Penny Zenker suggests, we reset, we can create the space to build meaningful relationships, and empower one another to reach new heights both professionally and in our day-to-day lives. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for all. Happy International Women’s Day!
