As a woman-owned business, we are honored to share the stories and messages of incredible woman leaders across a variety of industries for our International Women’s Day blog series.
This interview is with Andrea Berry, Executive Producer at NBC10 Philadelphia.
Why do you think it’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
It’s important for women to take time out to celebrate ourselves. That means recognizing all we’ve overcome – and everything we will still achieve. When you’re focused on your next goal, it’s easy to take your existing accomplishments for granted. But it’s easier to put life into perspective when you take a moment to reflect.
What motivates you to be a leader in your industry?
What I do is both a privilege and a responsibility. Other people entrust us to tell their stories, and it’s my job to make sure we get it right. I’m also keenly aware that representation is important – and so is sharing my perspective as a woman of color. I’m a firm believer that everyone’s voice is essential. Teams are stronger when all members can contribute.
Are there any female leaders that have inspired you throughout your career?
I’ve been fortunate to learn from a long list of female leaders – from my first boss to my current one! It’s inspiring to see their career trajectories and appreciate their willingness to give back and mentor others.
What advice or message would you share with young women who are looking to build their careers?
Be confident in yourself! Don’t let imposter syndrome win. Even the world’s most successful people don’t have everything figured out. They ask questions, learn from their mistakes and rely on a village to help them succeed.
