Interview with Amy Frazier, PwC

For this year’s International Women’s Day, our team at Slice is proud to celebrate women across the marketing and communications industry through an interview series. Follow along throughout the week leading up to International Women’s Day to read about these inspiring women and their stories.

This interview is with Amy Frazier, the Managing Director for PwC, a global network of firms delivering assurance, tax and consulting services for businesses.

How do you define your leadership?

Empowering: I stay close to my leaders and their priorities while empowering them and the entire team to make decisions, take risks, and innovate.

How has your leadership changed over the years you’ve been working?

I have learned that there is no “right way” to accomplish a goal. There are “individual ways” that create a diversity of thought and more innovative solutions.

Can you share a story that demonstrates a key learning for you in your leadership journey?

I am fortunate enough in my career to have many stories, but recently, the most valued experience I’ve had is watching individuals and leaders I have mentored achieve success in their own careers.  I love being able to step back and position them to take initiatives and teams forward. It makes me so proud of their accomplishments.

What role do you think marketing communications should play in the future of your organization or industry?

Marketing communications is at the core of a company’s brand and culture.  It is a platform for change and transformation and sets the tone for the direction that the company and the people within are going.

What do you think young women entering the marketing communications field should know?  What advice do you have for them?

Walk in the shoes of the customer.  When you understand who the customer is, you are able to better relate to what will resonate with them.  Also, be willing to fail fast and see that an idea that isn’t working is really an opportunity to pivot to something new that has the potential to be a huge success.

UPDATE: For Mother’s Day

For Mother’s Day, our team at Slice wanted to reconnect and share some more experiences of moms who work across the marketing and communications industry.

Have a plan for your day, make time for being a mom vs. trying to fit it in.  Plus give yourself permission to set boundaries for your work time so that you can be productive vs. trying to multi-tasking and not being effective in either role.

What have you learned from being a mom that you have applied to your role as a marketing leader?

Empathy, in a time of crisis or just everyday business, their are people on the otherside of the decisions just like our kids, so empathisize with who they are and their needs.

What have you learned from being a marketing leader that you have applied to your role as a mom?

Targeted marketing, every child is different and no one size will fit all when it comes to developing this baby creatures into adults
