Interview with Queen Muse, Queen Muse LLC

For this year’s International Women’s Day, our team at Slice is proud to celebrate women across the marketing and communications industry through an interview series.

This interview is with Queen Muse, the Founder of Queen Muse LLC, Professor of Communication at La Salle University, and Contributor at Philadelphia Magazine. Read our full interview series here.

How do you define your leadership?

I do my best to lead by example. There are few things that I advise others to do that I have not already tried, vetted, or worked through.

How has your leadership changed in the past year?

In the past year, I’ve realized that strong leadership requires some vulnerability. Sometimes, you have to be vulnerable enough to tell those you are leading what you’re going through so they can help you through it and so they feel comfortable being open with you as well.

Can you share a story that demonstrates a key learning for you in your leadership journey?

I don’t believe in hiding the gems. Some people figure out the key to a particular success and they hoard the information and keep it to themselves. As a leader, I always share how I got to where I am. I help people by sharing documents, contacts, and other practical resources that can help them take the next step in their career. I find that the more I pass my knowledge on to others, I find myself on the receiving end of those more experienced than me, passing along their gems for me to learn and grow from. It’s a beautiful circle of sharing.

Who do you follow on social media that you would recommend to other women leaders?

Thank you to Queen for taking part in our interview series. And be sure to read the entire series!
