Simplifying Email Marketing

So… What is email marketing?

We all recognize the importance of gaining attention for our companies whether that be through media coverage, or having a strong social media presence, but have you ever considered email marketing services? According to Campaign Monitor, email marketing has had the highest ROI for marketers for the past 10 years, generating roughly $38 for every $1 spent. Based on this report, no other channel has the same longevity as email marketing – holding it’s spot as the most powerful channel for marketers today!

The Basics of Email Marketing

Now that you have a little bit of information on what email marketing is and how it can help your company, let’s get started with the basics…

Understanding and growing your email list

One question that many of our clients have is “how to grow their email list?” Being that your email list is projected to degrade by 22% annually, it is very important to take the necessary steps to ensure that your email list is continually growing. Here are some very valuable tips to keep in mind when attempting to grow your email list:

  1. Create compelling content: And make sure it resonates with your customer base! Consumers subscribe to sources like the Washington Post, Philly Inquirer and CNN because they provide them with news that they care about. Likewise, consumers will offer their email addresses to your server if you are creating compelling, evergreen content that resonates well.
  1. Use lead magnets: Content such as eBooks, cheat sheets, case studies, or other “premium content” are a great way to grow your email list as consumers are more likely to trade-off their email addresses to receive this content that serves as valuable to them.
  1. Leverage your social media: As your social media channels are an already existing follower base that has previously shown interest in what you have to offer, you can take advantage of this and provide your followers with the lead magnets that you know they can’t resist.

Different Types of Emails

Now that you’ve got a good list, it’s time to start sending your emails… Here are 3 different emails to include in your strategy, and why:

  1. Broadcast: Broadcast emails are essentially emails sent out to everyone in your email list, as the most relevant group of targets might be… everyone! If you are looking to gain awareness for your brand, product, service, or anything really, broadcast emails are the go-to!
  1. Segmented: On the other hand, sometimes your goal isn’t to target everyone in your list, but instead specific targets that fit certain parameters. Segmenting allows us to cater specifically to each different segment’s interests, location, purchase history, and much, much more, ensuring that your email efforts are reaching the right people.
  1. Triggered: Above all, sometimes it matters more when the email is being sent… Triggered emails give you the ability to set up automatic emails that respond to certain actions such as a welcome email after a new subscription, or a thank you email after someone downloads content from your site!
